A paver project is only as good as what's underneath it. Anyone can lay pavers on top of dirt and have them look fine for a season. What separates a paver surface that lasts twenty years from one that heaves, sinks, or shifts within a few winters is what happens before a single paver goes down.
Here's how we do it:
Excavation and base preparation. We excavate to the proper depth for your project, typically deeper for driveways than for walkways, since driveways carry vehicle weight. We install a compacted gravel base, usually 8 to 12 inches deep depending on your soil conditions, because Bristol County's mix of clay and ledge doesn't drain or settle the same way everywhere.
Grading and drainage. Water is the enemy of every hardscape surface in Massachusetts. We grade every project so water flows away from your home and off the surface, not toward your foundation or into low spots where it can pool and freeze.
Edge restraints. Pavers stay in place because of what holds them from the sides, not just what's underneath. We install commercial-grade edge restraints along every border so the whole surface stays locked together season after season.
Paver placement and pattern. Whether you want a classic running bond, a herringbone pattern for extra strength under vehicle traffic, or a custom design, we lay each paver by hand to keep joints consistent and lines straight.
Joint sand and sealing. We finish with polymeric sand swept into the joints, which locks the pavers together, resists weed growth, and helps keep ants and erosion out of the joints.
