Landscape Construction in Rehoboth, MA

Patios, Walkways, Pavers, Retaining Walls & Outdoor Kitchens

A yard project is a big decision.
We don't take that lightly.

Hardscape construction is a broad term that covers a lot of ground. It includes everything that defines your outdoor space, like patios, walkways, and steps, to the structural and functional work that protects your property, like retaining walls and drainage systems. It includes the irrigation that keeps your investment alive through Massachusetts summers, and the paver driveways and patios that hold up beautifully through New England winters.

What all of these projects have in common is that they're permanent. Unlike paint or mulch, hardscape construction isn't something you redo every couple of years. It's a long-term commitment, which is exactly why it matters so much who you hire to do it. The base preparation, the drainage integration, the material selection — these decisions made early in the process determine whether your project looks great for two years or twenty.

At Oakhill Landscaping, we've built our reputation in Rehoboth and the surrounding communities one project at a time by showing up when we say we will, communicating clearly at every stage, and delivering work that we're genuinely proud to put our name on. We are reliable, skilled, and honest.

Patios, Walkways & Steps

The right patio, walkway, or set of steps doesn't just solve a problem; it completely changes the way you experience your outdoor space. It gives you somewhere to put furniture, somewhere to gather, somewhere that feels intentional and finished rather than just functional.

We design and build every project to fit the specific way you use your yard. That means listening first; understanding where you walk, where you entertain, where the kids play, and where the drainage already is — before we ever put pencil to paper. The result is a layout that feels natural and looks like it was always meant to be there.

And because we're in Massachusetts, every project is engineered with the freeze-thaw cycle in mind from the start. The base depth, the drainage slope, and the joint material all account for what happens when six inches of snow turns to ice and then turns back to rain in the same week. That's not an afterthought. It's the foundation of every project we build.

Patios Construction

A patio is the anchor of your outdoor living space. It's what turns a backyard into somewhere you actually want to be; a spot for a dining table, a fire pit, a few chairs and a good evening. We build patios in natural bluestone, granite, flagstone, and concrete pavers, in shapes and sizes that work with your yard rather than fighting it.

Every patio starts with a proper compacted gravel base; typically 8 to 12 inches deep depending on your soil — so the surface stays level through years of freeze and thaw without heaving or settling. We set the grade to ensure water drains away from your house, not toward it. And we take our time with the final surface: the pattern, the joint width, the edge treatment. The details are what make it look custom, because it is.

Building Walkways

A good walkway does two things at once: it makes your property more functional, and it makes it more beautiful. The path from your driveway to your front door is the first impression your home makes. The path around the side of your house to the back yard is how your family moves through the space every day. When those paths are well-built and well-designed, everything feels more intentional.

We build walkways in bluestone, granite, brick, concrete pavers, and natural fieldstone — choosing the right material based on where the path goes, how much use it'll get, and what fits your home's style. We're just as comfortable laying a classic formal path in cut bluestone as we are placing irregular fieldstone in a more naturalistic garden setting. And wherever we're building, the base goes in first: compacted stone, proper pitch, and edging that keeps everything in place for the long run.

Steps

Steps are one of those things most people don't think about until they're cracked, uneven, or icy — and then they're all they can think about. A set of well-built entry steps frames your home, connects different levels of your yard, and handles foot traffic day in and day out without complaining. A poorly built set is a liability waiting to happen.

We build steps in granite, bluestone, natural stone, and brick; matching the material to your patio, your walkway, or your home's exterior so everything ties together. Rise and run dimensions are set to feel natural underfoot: not too steep, not too shallow. And every set we build gets a solid concrete foundation beneath the stone, so nothing shifts, tilts, or opens up at the joints after a winter. We also factor in traction — surface texture and pitch that keeps steps safe when they're wet or icy.

Pavers- the last driveway or patio you'll ever need.

Poured concrete cracks. Asphalt fades. Pavers don't. When the rare one does shift after a harsh winter, you can lift and reset that single piece without touching the rest. That's one of the reasons so many homeowners choose pavers for driveways, patios, pool decks, and walkways.

We install concrete, brick, and natural stone pavers in a range of patterns, colors, and textures that complement your home's architecture. From a classic herringbone brick driveway to a modern large-format porcelain patio, we handle everything from base preparation — the part that determines how long it lasts — to final polymeric sand joint sealing.

Retaining Walls -
when your yard needs to hold its ground.

If your property has any kind of slope to it, you already know the slow battle that happens every spring. The soil shifts a little. The mulch washes downhill after a heavy rain. The embankment along the back fence looks a little more uneven than it did last year. None of it feels urgent — until it is. By the time a slope becomes a real problem, it's usually a much bigger fix than it would have been if something structural had gone in earlier.

A retaining wall stops that process in its tracks. It holds the grade where you want it, protects the lawn and plantings above it from erosion, and can actually turn a sloped, difficult-to-use part of your yard into something flat, functional, and finished-looking. We've transformed problem slopes across Rehoboth, Attleboro and the surrounding communities into terraced garden beds, level lawn areas, and clean structural edges that tie the whole yard together.

Outdoor Kitchen -
bring the whole evening outside.

We design and build custom outdoor kitchens from the ground up, using natural stone, brick, and concrete block construction that's built to withstand outdoor use.
Every project starts with a proper concrete foundation, because an outdoor kitchen is heavy, and anything built on compacted gravel or a paver base alone will shift and crack over time. The masonry structure goes up from there: the frame, the countertop substrate, the finish stone or tile, and the built-in elements — all designed around how you actually cook and entertain, not a standard template.

Building an outdoor kitchen in New England requires a different set of decisions than building one in a warmer climate. The countertop material needs to be frost-resistant. The grout and mortar joints need to be rated for freeze-thaw conditions. The plumbing, if you're adding a sink, needs to be designed with winterization in mind.

We had a fantastic experience working with Oakhill Landscaping on our pool hardscaping project. The crew was extremely hardworking, professional. And kept us informed of their progress every step of the way. The craftsmanship from the fire pit to the pavers to the retaining wall is exceptional. Our backyard is now our favorite place to be!! Thank you for exceeding our expectations, you will be hearing from us soon for our next project.
